The one thing I absolutely hate working out is my core. I hate doing it. I hate crunches. I hate the plank. I hate everything. I try to get creative and try to inspire myself to want to work out my stomach, but it just never happens. On the rare occasion that I do work out my core, I only do it for one work out session and then I don't care to do it more. I guess its no wonder why I feel like my stomach/midsection is my less flattering part on my body. Does anyone else feel the same frustration with core exercises? Can't I just wish for a smaller stomach?
I bring this up because last night I spend about 25-30 minutes targeting my midsection. I planned to run but thanks to the cold air vent that randomly got turn on at work right over my desk, I arrived home with a horrible headache. No run, but I did feel like I had to do something. I went crazy and worked on my core. Calm down, this doesn't necessary mean I will be continuing on this unknown path to Ab-landia, but I am blogging about it to try to force myself to. I did a wide range of things in order to not more myself with one or two different exercises.

Crunches - I did 20 3x
Stiff leg pull-over crunch - I did 20 3x
Front Plank - Held for 30 seconds 2x
Side Plank - Held for 30 seconds each side
Bicycles - Did 50
Side Bends with Weight - 25 on each size 2xSo there you have it. Day one of my attempt to be good about working out my core. I can't see this lasting very long...

core work is beyond boring! i feel your pain. bleh!
I purchased the Jillian Michael's fab blasting DVD to try and motivate me to do core work. I don't care for it either so I figured this would do. I've only done the DVD once and that was last Friday. So I feel ya in the core department.
Thanks for posting the pics of these exercises. I too never focus on abs or my core or really strengthening of any kind. I'm too impatient ha.
I'm sooo lazy with core stuff. It's HARD and boring. Good for you!!
Ever try 30 Day Shred by Jillian Michaels? She does circuits of 3min strength, 2min cardio and 1min abs. It's a great way to get it in while working everything else.
I hate working on core more than any other part of my body. Most of the time, I rely on classes for core work because they motivate me to keep going and push myself. The thing is I LOVE the feeling of doing corework so I dont know why I hate it so much? Weird.
Anyways, funny.. those are the EXACT exercises I do do when I do core work! My favorite is the side bends with weight, it never fails to leave me sore later and never actually requires much effort to do!
I've been meaning to try the 30 day shred...I've heard that's good!
Wow J!!! Look at you go with your core.
I know this will sound crazy, but I love doing core work. Ok, so I am crazy!!!!
:O)
i actually love working core...i like it when I cand o more reps than ebfore..or hold the position for longer than before. I like that it hurts like a mofo and I sometimes can't hang...awesome
woot woot!!! Call you the core lady!
Lots of luck!
I try to incorporate core worth with strength training all in one so I can get it over with quicker. Nice job, that looks like a great workout!
You're not gonna want to hear this since it will kill your motivation (initially) but core work does not make your stomach smaller. Only cutting down on your bodyfat percentage will do that. the only way to do that is to do a modest calorie cut of 500 (max) calories per day and eat properly. I found that alcohol was my biggest stumbling block to losing weight and that last year during the month before my marathon I managed to lose the most weight (read fat) by cutting out all alcohol.
Also you should note that you can't spot reduce either. You will lose body fat where your body chooses and unfortunately the stomach area is normally the last place to go.
Keep doing the core though! It's a great way to help prevent injury. A strong core is the key to good form. Concentrate on your core when running too.
I've been reading your blog for a while without commenting, but I feel like I just *have* to after this post - I hate ab work too!
You should be really proud of yourself for getting through that workout - I probably would have quit halfway through... if my wimpy abs could even handle that much.
it's unanimous, we all hate core!
good for you for doing it anyway! you are my inspiration!
I am the same way about my core!!! gahhhh
