Good News! :D

My new bff is the podiatrist I went to see today for the second opinion. After yesterdays heart breaking visit to my orthopedic, I really was hoping for any sort of second opinion. I was told that I couldn't run for yet another 3 weeks. WHAAAT. I found this to be a load of crap. If the swelling had yet to come down, what made him think another 3 weeks off it with PT would do anything? Pssh.
I biked angerly yesterday for 25 minutes before flicking off the stationary bike at the gym and bidding the place ado. Why couldn't I run!?
So today was my last hope. My last final chance to get a different diagnostic and hopefully see a light at the end of this very long and stationary tunnel. He checked my feet drew some lines on my ankles and calves and had me walk down the hallway and back twice.
Verdict: A normal person walks from the outside of their heel to their big toe. I spend just a little bit too long on the outside of my foot which in turn causes my knees to overcompensate and move inwards ending the stride at an unbanned place. He guessed that I had a short big toe bone and took xrays to confirm it. Yup, small bone. I can write a Thank You letter to my parents for that one. Having a small bone in my toe is probably a big reason why I walk and run the way I do. This in turn could cause me to have sexy bunions later on in life. He gave me a shot in both ankles to make the swelling go down; A second shot will be given next week. I need to get some orthotics as well and am not allowed to go barefoot - even at home.
What does this all mean? I CAN RUN AGAIN! He didn't see a reason why I am not still running (besides the pain I was getting before) and told me to wait a day or so to run. He has run the NYC marathon 8 times, so I know he understands the whole "I NEED TO RUN" thing. I am free to do anything as long as I don't have pain!

OMG OMG OMG!!!

WOOOO! I am so excited. I really feel like the possibilities are endless now. I MAY still be able to run the half in a week; Maybe if I jog/walk it! AND I MAY still be able to run the marathon in May! I feel like running 30 miles right now from adrenaline and excitement alone!
Thanks for all your support! These three weeks have been so rough for me. I really hate it - plus I think I've gained about 10lbs.
I promise myself this:
Never will I take running for granted again. If I feel too tired to run, or just plan lazy, I need to remember this moment and these past three weeks. Run because you can! :)

Yay! I am so happy to hear you have the greenlight to run again. And that is a good point - we shouldn't take our bodies for granted!

Yayyy!! Great news! I'm so happy for you : )
I had a similar experience last year, except the opposite problem (I overpronate), so I had to get orthotics (=best thing ever) and I can't walk barefood, with flip flops, flats etc. for too long (which sucks but whatever I can run!)

I'm so happy for you, I know this was soooo annoying! Just please please please promise to listen to your body, ok? No running if it hurts. I'm worried about you, so just be careful.

Ok, I will stop being a worry-wart now. Love ya, girl! Welcome back to running!

congrats on being able to get back there! I always think back to my first 15k, where they blessed the runners, and thanked God for the ability to run. So true!

That is great news! And you've shown why it's a good idea to get 2nd opinions!

Great News J! I look forward to running with you one day soon!

No offense, but I'd get a third opinion too. I'm a new follower, but the not going barefoot thing and getting orthotics (and I've had them before, never again) would absolutely kill me.

Yay for 2nd opinions! Very happy for you!!! :)

Congrats! You totally motivated me! I wasn't going to run Thursday night (because I was tired.) After reading your post, I got outside and ran 3.4 miles :-)

That's great, you really are due for some good news!

I pays to get other opinions. I suffered for 5 years with arch, ankle and shin pain and it took the third doctor, a podiatrist to figure out what the problem was.

I'm glad decided to get another opinion! Wishing you a speedy recovery!

just wanted to point out that it is not only little tween girls who get excited over Taylor Lautner! Sigh.... it is also middle aged girls who are old enough to be his mother.... yes, but he makes a nice werewolfe. sigh
