ANKLE WATCH 2010
And the verdict is....
I have tendinitis. BOOOOOOOO. What does this mean for me? No running for three weeks! My doctor then asks "Is this ok with you?" Um no! I have marathons to train for, waterfront runs to do, treadmill training. Waahhhh.
Once he learned that I was in the midst of training he decided to send me to PT to accelerate my healing rate on top of giving me an anti inflammatory to take twice a day for 3 weeks. He is also known to give runners a cortisone shot before their marathon...go on....
Is this good news? Of course not. I don't want to not run. Running is my life. Its the one thing that really holds everything together. Its the peanut butter on my sandwich, its the marshmallows in my rice crispy treats, its the frosting on my 7 layer chocolate cake, its the glass to my beer...
I am allowed to bike and do none impacting kind of things. Yawwwnn, ok excuse me, just hearing that made me fall asleep out of shear boredom. I don't own a bike so it will be in the gym...lord help me. I hope I don't go insane. I'm going to look at some other none impact cross training things. I want to keep my fitness up but not effect any of my heal time.Could it have been worse? Well yeah, duh. I know I will see the silver lining soon enough (I'm already coming around after crying when I left the doctors office). Everyone keeps telling me that 3 weeks will fly by, I hope you are right.
Now I am doing a lot of research to find a good Physical Therapist. I am tired of the crappy ones I've been to. Lots of research. If you know of one in the Westchester/NYC area, let me know! I'll check it out.
Thanks for the love on twitter when the news broke. I really felt all of the love!

Sorry to hear this. Welcome to the injured reserve. I'm just finishing my stint and hopefully will be up and running on Friday. Don't believe them, the time does not fly. My advice? Pool running. Stop by my blog for all you wanted to know on that and more. Happy healing!
oooohhhhh booooo.....that sucks! I hope you make a speedy recovery, Marcia is kicking some pool booty you should check her out!
Boooooooo Jocelyn! Sorry to read this. :(
Bring reading material for the bike... and what about water running?
I'm sorry to hear about that ankle! I've been told I can get a cortisone shot in my foot for my issues too but i've heard its PAINFUL... who knows about the ankle though!! Sending healing vibes your way sweetie!!! xoxoxoxo
Oh no, I'm sorry! That's exactly how I would react: glad it wasn't worse, then just pissed for no running!
Well, just take this as an opportunity to try new stuff! Get a fun book or good magazines for the bike, or listen to some new podcasts...you'll get through it and be a stronger runner in the end.
Best of luck, girl!
Sorry about your ankle but at least you have a diagnoses! Glass to your beer? Ha, I love any reference to a beer. 21 days will fly and you'll be back on the road.
Biking at the gym can be rather boring. A good book makes it bearable. Good luck with your recovery. I'm pretty sure you'll still be able to run the half.
Ouch! I hope you have a quick recovery!
Aww so sorry. My appt was pushed back to Thursday and I'm so nervous about what he's going to say. Are you going to follow your doc's recommendations?
So sorry! My doc appt got moved to Thursday and I'm so nervous to hear what he's going to say. Are you going to follow your doc's recommendation?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
So sorry about the news. Hang in there and NEVER GIVE UP!!!
So sorry about that news! I feel your pain believe me, I think my knee may never get better! Maybe you can use the 3 weeks to try some fun random classes at your gym? Do you think you could do spinning? maybe yoga/pilates? Some weight training? Hopefully stuff like this will make the time go quicker. And if not, like I said in my post yesterday: March sucks!
Sorry about your news. I don't know any PTs. Don't live anywhere near you. Don't rule out chiropractors esp. if they do ART. Active Release Therapy. They have helped me get back to running a couple of times. Piriformis issues and PF. Good luck.
Nuts!!!! Good luck on the PT search.
A big booooooo to hurt ankles. Take the rest you need, work with your PT and you'll be back in no time. (easy to say, hard to do, I know, I know) :o(
Bummer :( I'm on injured reserve too but I'm not even sure how long this will take. Hopefully the meds and PT help!
so sorry to hear your news...but you are, sadly (?), only human! take care of yourself and you'll be back out there soon. chin up!
Sorry to hear about the ankle! Hopefully you will heal fast and soon!! Just grab some of those gossip magazines and peddle on that bike!
A crappy situation, no doubt. Though I can't help but laugh every time I see the term "ANKLE WATCH!" Best wishes for a quick recovery. In the meantime, I hear a cold beer works well as an ice pack. Just a thought... :)
I know how you feel. I wasn't allowed to run for two months after the marathon due to stress fractures in each foot. It SUCKED. I got through it by reminding myself that if I followed orders and stayed off it, then I'd heal well and be able to run again, but if I didn't do that just to satisfy a short term need to run, then I could do more harm and not be able to run for years to come.
You'll be back and running in no time! The first few days are the worst (I thought, anyway).
ugh... I am SO sorry girl! I can totally sympathize and although the time doesn't fly by....you'll get through it. The bike actually helps a ton and had made me a lot faster and feel much stronger as a runner. I would highly reccomend it. Just read a book or try taking spin classes if they are offered. Sending lots of healing vibes your way!
BOOOOOOOOOOOO. that blows. These things happen to the best of us though. Take care of yourself!!!
awww so sorry to hear this! Taking time off is never fun, but three weeks isn't the worst thing in the world and time off always makes me appreciate running even more when I come back.. just trying to look on the bright side, hope you have a speedy recovery! good luck
