ANKLE WATCH 2010: Its Not Looking Good

No this is not a short chubby kids foot/ankle

Time to give you all an update on my ankle. I'm going to go ahead and steal this from Claire at Will Run for Beer..."Fankle". Yup, as you see in the picture above, my fankle is swollen still (if not more so than before).
I finally got my self to PT last night. I liked the place - waaaaay better than where I have gone in the past to do Physical Therapy. However, the physical therapist seemed so focused on the fact that my foot naturally points when resting. My calves are super tight, but they have been my entire life; My foot hasn't changed. I don't know if she thinks that this has anything to do with my fankle explosion (not really explosion, but swolleness), but I would think it would have bothered me long before this. She had me do a bunch of calf stretches and gave me a few to do at home. I'm going to do them because at this point...I have nothing to lose!
Runamyrun on twitter said that it didn't sound like tendinitis...but I have no idea what else it could be! To say I am frustrated is a gross understatement. I would adore to see some kind of improvement - anything really. I see the orthopedic next Tuesday but I doubt he is going to clear me to run. At this point I am thinking about changing my full marathon in May to a 1/2 - which would suck but at least I could still get a run in since I paid for my hotel and the race already.
Tonight I am planning on hitting up the gym to do some biking and upper body. At least I can still work out, right?

Hey honey,

Stay strong and positive! First of all- have you had an xray? And can't you get into the ortho before tuesday? You could also try to see a podiatrist- I have the BEST podiatrist here in LA! He knows feet! He was the only person who diagnosed my issue with my foot! I bad seen numerous ortho's! My issue was a weight bearing one- and my podiatrist was the only one to give me a weight bearing xray!

I think at this point you should try to see anyone! Get a podiatrist appt, get a second opinion from another ortho! But try to see a podiatrist!

See you tomorrow!

Ouch! Hope your ankle improves soon.
I have love/hate relationship with ortho dr and pt. I went through a series of treatments last year for my foot but as weeks went by I was becoming more and more convinced that it was not the therapy but the rest that helped my foot heal.
It is great you can do other workouts though. Now that's the spirit!

Yikes hope your ankle heals soon! I really hope you can at least do the 1/2 in May missing out on races due to injuries is no fun! I recently tore my hamstring I am the process of healing it. I can only walk right now and it is torture. I want to run so bad I have to keep mentally talking myself out of it and remind myself I need it to fully heal even if it does feel better.

AGH, how frustrating! I really hope you start to see some improvements soon! Keep up your cardio in the mean time so you'll be in decent shape when you can run again (hopefully SOON).

Ugh, I feel your pain and frustration. My PT last year when I was being treated for tendinitis pointed out that my right foot pointed too. Said it had something to do with tight muscles all the way up to my hip.

Can you have x-rays taken? Or maybe you did already.

Oh, I feel so bad for you. Running definintely teaches us patience doesn't it?

I hope you can figure this out soon and that your ankle heals quickly!

Feel better soon, girl! And yes, you can still work out, which is awesome! :)

And dare I say it? Your fankle is pretty freakin' cute. Like the little adorable chubby kid. ♥ But I do hope he leaves soon.

There is nothing worse than having to stop running when you are in the middle of training for a marathon. Good luck! I hope that your fankle improves! (I love that term, I think I'm going to find some way to work it into my daily speech.)

Ummm...I'm thinking you need an MRI at this point. I hope your orthopedist will order that the next time he sees you. Tendinitis really should not take this long to heal. Hang in there J...let me know if I can help.

Well you and I make up quite a motley crew these days! I'm going to try to channel your positivity and enthusiasm for upper body only workouts over the next 2 weeks. And you can use my strategy: "beer makes everything better."
Hang in there, girl!

wow girl, your 'fankle' is seriously swollen. Please take care of yourself. Run the 1/2 if you need to, you don't need to permanently injure yourself! :( I know it's hard, but take care of your 'fankle' and then worry about running.

You poor thing! :( You do have the right attitude though - at least you can still do some working out!

Ugh, I feel your pain but you are right at least you can still work out and hopefully you are going to see some serious progress. Full to half might not be a bad idea, can you wait a few weeks to decide?

I'm so sorry you keep going through all this crap. Its for sure not cool and hopefully you will kick those ankles in to gear and they will get better. if your PT sucks, get a new one! you have the choice of where you go and if u dont like it, make sure you change.... in fact, i think you should come to this great place in michigan! ;) ;) ;) LOVE YOU SWEETS!!!! sending healing vibes your way!
